Day Thirteen: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – Leftovers!!

There is nothing better than opening the fridge, searching around for what you can put together for your lunch and then you see it………..Ta dah……it’s like a light is switched on……LEFTOVERS!!
The lovely Vicky packed us off with extra cake goodness and I’m excited!!

I do feel like I need to spoil myself everyday….make up for the terrible life I’m leading without chocolate!!

Day Twelve: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – Cassa Del Ackroyds!!

Sunday was a good one…… My lovely friend Vicky is cooking me and some friends dinner!! Now the real reason we go round is not for the dinner part really…..although it’s always so good…but we go because we love cake and she makes amazing cake!! Cake that is filled with Love!! And they come in all different shapes and sizes, flavours and all personal to our dietary requirements!!
My boyfriend as a diabetic shouldn’t eat to much of the good stuff…so Vicky always makes him his own sugar sugar free selection!!
Along with this was plenty of non chocolately treats perfectly sized so you can eat plenty!!

There were bakewell tarts, lemon cupcakes, cookies and brownies…delicious!!

A lovely evening, with lovely friends, and yummy food!! I love food parties!!

Day Eleven: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – My Milkshakes bring all the….

These blogs are late……I know….I know…..lazy me….although have had hectic weekend and only finally having a chance to have some time with my iPad!!
Saturday was an eventful day, having my account hacked and my dollar stolen, I was a woman NOT to be messed with……’Give me the chocolate….NOW!!!’

Surely I could be forgiven for a having a bar of dairy goodness to make me feel better?? What better reason could there be?
I resisted…. there was only one thing that could make all this better……and that was milkshakes!!
Milkshakes are naughty…..they are for special occasions, they are for hangovers……they are…..GOOOOOOD!!!!

If I was doing this, I was doing it properly…..homemade!!

I usually choose chocolate milkshakes…..what’s the point in branching out, it’s never going to be as good!!!
But with no choice, I got choosing!!

Skittles? Nope! Fresh fruit? Nope!! Peanut Butter… you’re taking!!!

2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, a spoonful of peanut butter and large splash of milk….it’s go time!!
Blend it it up and pour into glass?? Heaven!!!!

The good thing about milkshake is that it fills you up and feels almost like you had chocolate!!

Natwest who???

Day Ten: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – MUST NEVER BE EMPTY!!

After a big physical day at work accompanied by a large fish and chips….. There wasn’t much room for anything else but sleep!!

However, there is rule in my house…..the sweet jar….which was one of the first things I bought when we moved in…must always have sweets in… all times!! So if an emergency occurs where I need sweets and the it’s 10pm and the shops are closed….I never need worry because the jar of sugar and delight will always save the day!!

It has actually never been empty, it occasionally sits in the kitchen with a few lonely sweets that don’t sit on top of my list, but is never empty!!

At the moment my boyfriend is doing a great job of keeping it full and varied!!

Friday night arrives……let’s tuck in!! I made the mistake of buying a tracker bar on my way to work today for a snack and when I came to open it realised it was a chocolate chop tracker!! I contemplated whether to dissect each chip out one by one or to admit defeat and throw it away!! I tried to extract the chips…. I tried to convince myself there was nothing I could do so should just eat it….but guilt washed over me and I gave up!!

So my little emergency jar is just what I needed tonight!
Honestly people, everyone should have one of these in there house!!

Day Nine: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – Going all out!!

Thursday has been a busy day…….one of those days that requires chocolate!! The feeling that there is simply not enough time to all the things you need to do, so the only thing to do is sit and chocolate (cue kit Kat advert)!!

I had convinced my mum to take part in this challenge which she reluctantly accepted! How long is she going to last I wondered! I imagined she was break after two days but just not tell me…….8 days she lasted!! Accidentally ate a pack of buttons…..said when she realised it was too late…..might as well eat the rest!! What a quitter!! There goes her giant white chocolate Easter egg! Ha she blames my dad…..typical!!

Anyway…..I’m going all out tonight….making a nice dinner and even better dessert!!

On tonight’s menu is…. Lime Cheesecake!!

So easy to make and simply delightful!! And to make it even better, instead of a tin I made the cheesecake in glasses for extra indulgence!!
I layered the biscuit base (butter and smashed up digestives) with double cream and phillidelphia….. Don’t ask me about amounts…… I guess…..most of the time!! Just whisk the cream, lime juice and philli until thick!! Once layered, sprinkle lime rind on the top and chill in the fridge until dessert time!!

Boyfriend loved it….the lime gives it a real refreshing taste!! And I made mojitos with the reminder lines……well I had the rum in!!!

Day Eight: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – Granola anyone??

I’m getting used to this baking ‘new stuff lark’…..tonight’s (Wednesday), yeah sorry bit late with this one!!

Tonight’s treat was homemade Granola……had no idea how to make it so guessed!! Oats….check…..dried fairy checked…..syrup…..check!!

Mix it all up in a bowl and spoon into greaseproof paper lined tin. Then pop in fridge….done!!

It was good, I may have accidentally put too much syrup in but hey ho… was gooey and that is better than dry right??
I also added cinnamon (love that stuff) and that have a nice touch!!

The world is my oyster…..I can conquer anything……anything…..ha!!!

Day Seven: 40 Day No Chocolate Challenge – My Secret Weapon!!

Ah god…….I got home and had all my dinner plans sorted (home alone tonight) but completely neglected the dessert part!!

I looked in the fridge…..why is there chocolate in there?? How, who……Whhhhhhhhy??
Close the fridge Charli…..if you can’t see it, it’s not there……then why can I hearing the mini eggs calling my name!!

Then I remembered…… Sitting on the top shelf of my fridge are some little pots of joy! Anyone ever heard of Motts?

They make tinned fruit in USA and make these delightful pots of puréed apple sauce. I know, I know… sauce like this should be accompanied with pork and mash and parsnips……yum…..but I love apple sauce with everything!!

You can officially not buy them in England so whenever I go over to the states I always top on them!!

It’s a question I ask myself everyday….why am I English….something when wrong….I should have been American!!! But until the day I become a citizen I have to accept that pretending is the best I going to get right now!!

So I tuck into my little pot of fruit and smile that actually it’s probably quite healthy!! Go me!!

Tomorrow there will be a plan………pie maybe?!?!

Day Six: 40 Days of No Chocolate Challenge – a Friends Recommendation!!

Day six…… Feels like I have been doing this longer!!

Feeling very lazy today so it’s a good job I have friends who are taking this chocolate ban seriously and are there for me in times of need!! That’s right…..just as I’m sat on my couch thinking ‘ah no what should I make’….I can’t be bothered….this blanket is too soft to leave and having to get up means letting go of the remote control!!
So just as I brave it to the kitchen my friend Karen messages me one sentence that may have changed my life!! ‘Peanut Butter on digestives. Try it!’ She was not wrong!! The question was… much do I put on one biscuit….what is the sweet to salt ratio and how many am I allowed??? It was good and as I sat eating it very slowly….so I could savour its goodness….. I imagined what else I could put on different biscuits!! Nutella on cookies, cream cheese on rich tea’s….maybe not….what an amazing idea…..a biscuit and a spread meant for bread or toast!!! Genius!!

Day six done…..only another 40 days to go…..yep apparently Sundays don’t count!! Aghhhhhh!!!

Day Five: 40 Days of No Chocolate Challenge – Raiding the cupboards!!

The sun is shining …… Which I decided might be a good thing!! Why you ask? Because when the sun is shining I do not crave chocolate as much!! The idea of getting a chocolate bar out of your bag to find it’s done a wicked witch of the west act and melted into a pool of room temperature badness ain’t a good thought at all!! I like my chocolate cold…..I mean cold… sometimes pop in the freezer for a while cold!! I know, strange!!

Anyhow, still in London and enjoying the sunshine…..but was not looking forward to the 4 hour coach journey home!!
I stacked up on hardcore crisps, water and some mints with the intention to settle down and read my book!! Four hours alone never happens!!

6 hours later I’m home, having changed coaches in the middle of a dodgy, abandoned, service station, having sweated my entire body out as they coach’s air con was broken which obviously meant the heater was on full blast and sat waiting for ages to fill in complaint form!! I arrived home irritated, hard done by and ready for some happiness?? Surely I am allowed a little bit of chocolate…..who would begrudge me that???
Nope stay strong charl!!

I did that thing where you look in the cupboard an decide what you want then can’t choose. Then ten minutes later you are back there looking again!! After maybe an hour of deciding what would satisfy my taste buds, I decided to make French toast……my favourite!! Covered in maple syrup, job done, happy days and the bus rage soon seeped out of my pores to make room for all that syrup!! YUM!!

Day Four: 40 days of No Chocolate Challenge – Broadening my horizons!!!

So I’m in London and it’s a beautiful day!! Me and my friend head down to the Southbank for a walk along the river and find ourselves at Borough Markets!!
Now this is going to go one of two ways; I am trapped in a one way, slow pedestrian walk through endless amounts of chocolate brownies and truffles and free samples…… or I’m going to be blown away with hundreds of different foods I have never tried and chocolate will be a distant memory!!! Well infact it was a mixture of both, obviously far less dramatic too…..damn!! I love drama!!!

There were delicious brownies the size of my foot….everything’s bigger in London and cakes and treats making my mouth water….but this was an opportunity for me to open my eyes to new experiences and to trying new things. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t like change and not very adaptable to it!!
However as we browsed around the markets I was drawn to all the different types of cheese and meats and free samples……obviously!! I wanted bits if everything and the place was just buzzing with food lovers!!

I settled with a cheese pretzel which was yummy and definitely not what I would have chosen if Chocolate was not taking a vacation from my life!!

Borough markets are fab and I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting London!!

So London is being good to me and I’m off out tonight for cocktails so my sweet tooth should be maintained safely here!! 😉
